I was delighted to be able to attend - both as Deputy Lord Mayor and local ward councillor - the first ever farmers' market in Headington last Friday, 28th September. The idea for it came from my colleague, Cllr David Rundle, and it was taken up with great energy by Headington Action, a charity representing residents' associations and other bodies with links to Headington.

The market aims to give Headington shoppers access to a wide range of fresh products, from local producers wherever possible. When I called by at just after 8 am, there were queues forming at some of the stalls, as the traders kept pace with the demand of those eager to buy before going to work, and from parents (and their children) on the school run.

If you missed it this time, then don't worry - the market will take place on the fourth Friday of each month on Kennett Road (the London Road end) between 8 am and 12.30 pm. And there will be the following items on sale:

  • Fresh fruit and vegetables

  • Pork and pork products

  • Bread

  • Fresh Fish

  • Lamb

  • Beef

  • Poultry

  • Cheese

  • Apples and apple products

  • Honey

  • Eggs
