Headington & Marston Transport Strategy: where's it up to?6.18.00am GMT Tue 26th Feb 2008
I've just received the latest update from Oxfordshire County Council on the current state of play with transport schemes in our area. I've listed them all below, together with the Council's assessment of what's happening, and what's been completed. Any questions, do please let me know: stephen[at]stephentall.org.uk
Detail: Major scheme to address congestion (particular focus on bus priority), road safety and street environment (particularly in the Headington shopping area) Status: Consultation on Draft Preliminary design Pullens Lane (Brookes Uni) to St Andrew's School carried out Spring/Summer 2007. This included consultation with key stakeholders. Est. start date: Scheme (with some amendments) was approved by Transport committee on 6 September. Detailed design for Pullens Lane to Osler Road virtually complete - tender process due to start at the beginning of March. Est. completion date: Construction due to start in July. Local residents and stakeholders will be kept informed of likely arrangements for the necessary roadworks - February 2009. • Controlled Parking Zones (CPZ) > Marston South - Completed - June 2007 > Future CPZ feasibility report - Possible areas for future controlled parking zones Status: Completed - the report is available to view on the county council website. Three areas have been proposed for new CPZs (Divinity Road area, Magdalen Road area and Cowley Rd East area). Est. start date: Consultation on Divinity Road area CPZ due to start in 08/09 (the other zones to follow subject to funding being available) Est. completion date: 2009/2010
> Foxwell Drive/Meadon Hill Ring Road Cycle link (city council scheme) Details: City council scheme linking Ring Road cycle track to Northway estate and therefore JR via Saxon Way bus link Status: Scheme details being reviewed following local concerns. A route via Marsh Lane and Stockelys Rd is currently being investgated > Fairfax Avenue/Purcell Road cycle link Details: Extension of 'Parks cycle route' from Edgeway Road to Fairfax Ave using existing footpath and city council open space. Status: Some progress has been made with establishing ownership of the route although the picture is still not complete. Est. start date: Legal/land ownership work is ongoing the outcome of which directly influences the scheme programme. Est. completion date: No date fixed. > Hill Top Road/Southfield Park/Churchill cycle route Status: Implementation is likely to be dependent on the outcome of the town green inquiry for Warneford Meadow and any possible planning application for development on that site. > Cycle route signing Details: New/improved signing of key cycling/walking routes in the area Status: Funding will need to be established to carry out an audit of existing provision and possible improvements > Peat Moors to Girdlestone Road cycle link Details: Improvement/formalisation to Lye Valley to/from Churchill hospital/Headington cycle link Status: Subject to availability of funding, the provision of this missing link will be investigated. Est. start date: Investigation during 2008/09
> Real Time Information Details: Real time displays to be installed at selected stops on routes 10 and 15 Status: Further displays installed at Wood Farm Rd, Divinity Road, Foresters Tower, Paul Kent Hall x2 (on Hollow Way), Corner House x2 (on Hollow Way), JR Hospital x3 Status: Completed > Bus stop improvements Details: Improved bus waiting facilities at selected stops on routes 10 and 15 Status: All stops on route 10 an 15 now with improved infrastructure Est. start date: Completed > Other improvements Details: Reduced delays on bus routes Status: Windmill Road signals rephased. Widening of Hollow Way on the approach to Garsington Road junction Est. start date: Completed > Thornhill Interchange Details: Improvements to bus and passenger waiting facilities including Real Time information and new bus stops Status: Completed Est. completion date: February 2008 > Expansion of Park & Ride provision to east of the city Details: Additional Park & Ride space is required for people travelling to Headington and the city centre Status: Investigation of possible options for expansion is ongoing - informal consultation with key stakeholders has just started (ends 20 March) Est. start date: Planning application to be submitted early 2009
