In case you don't know, this is the number Royal Mail asks you to call to arrange a re-delivery of a parcel from the East Oxford sorting office to your nearest post office. However, I've received two complaints in the last week that it's not being answered.

The first I mentioned in last week's gripe-story against Royal Mail: 'Royal Mail - another batch of complaints' (19th Nov, 2006) - www.stephentall.org.uk/news/445.html

In response to which article I received the following e-mail:

  • "I agree entirely. I have spent the last 2 hours trying to get though to a number (08456113225) which does not appear to manned at any time of day, in order to arrange redelivery of a parcel to the headington post office. Is there another, less expensive and frustrating way to do this?"

I have just sent the following e-mail to Royal Mail:

I've received a number of comments recently that the 0845 6 113 225 number for those wishing to arrange redelivery of a parcel is not being answered. Either it rings and rings; or else is just terminated after 2-3 rings.

Two questions:

1. is this a problem that's known about and being acted on?

2. are there alternatives (text, email etc) for customers who cannot get through?

Will let you know what response I get.
